vibrate!festival 2018 | EDITION IV: “UNISON”

Brașov. 17-24 June 2018

Director’s Word

Dear friends,

Welcome to the 4th edition of vibrate!festival. In the year of Romania’s Centenary celebrations we take inspiration from Enescu’s visionary composition, Prelude á l’unisson. As the different instruments of the orchestra come together as one voice in this unique work, the 2018 edition brings together sound, dance and colour to the most exciting spaces in Brașov, with world class performances from young stars of the classical music scene. Following the success of last year, we kick off at Tenis Arena, this time with a ”match” between jazz and classical music. Join us on an enchanted journey through landmarks of the string repertoire with Gémeaux Quartett at the Black Church, Roman Catholic Church of Saints Peter & Paul, and as part of the Musical Promenade, when you will discover Brașov through the lens of classical music. We celebrate the Centenary at the Aula of the Transilvania University combining chamber music and cinematography, with Dan Dediu in the double role of composer and performer. As ever, the artists share the experience of creativity with young people in masterclasses, workshops, talks and exhibitions. The treasures of chamber music performed by young stars of the international classical music scene, visual arts, choreography and cinematography, the architecture and nature of Brașov vibrate in unison this June.

Come join us!

What they say

I find that vibrate!festival is as much about music as it is about human solidarity, about art in its classical expression as well as innovation.

(The President of Romania, Mr. Klaus Werner Iohannis. Extract from the official message to the organizers and audience of the 2015 edition.)

Vlad decided to enhance the Romanian cultural life by making a beautiful festival here. I am extremely happy to spend a week here in Transylvania, Brașov is a fantastic, beautiful city and I think the right time and place for a festival.

(Valeriy Sokolov | violinist)

Always dreamed of coming to Transylvania - & now I'm here for the excellent vibrate!festival - beautiful part of the world & Brașov is probably the most picturesque city I've ever been to. Vibrate is definitely a festival to look out for - there's a real magic in the air.

(Gabriel Prokofiev | composer & DJ)

Great acoustics and excellent performances transported us in different worlds, compelling us for a few hours to live in the present. Because great performers have this gift – to hypnotise!

(Irina Vasilescu | Radio România Muzical)

The most satisfying concerts at the vibrate!festival were the site specific ones that managed to combine a sense of community with an excellence in music.

(Henrietta Foster | EUNIC Magazine, London)

A fine festival that enlightened the city for a week.

(Valentin Bărbat, local supporter | Tipografia Tea & Coffee House)

2016 | Edition II: “Air” | Short Documentary

“What matters in art is to vibrate oneself and make others vibrate.”

(George Enescu)
