TranSimfonia is a flexible ensemble dedicated to contemporary music. The name points as much to the ensemble’s geographical origin, as to its transformative mission to perform new and modern scores alongside transcriptions, creative arrangements and recompositions of existing repertoire. The first project of the ensemble, A Lockdown Symphony, in collaboration with American singer-songwriter Sarah Vienna, was a music video filmed in the spring of 2020, during the first months of the Covid-19 pandemic, in partnership with Transilvania University. The same year, TranSimfonia strings performed an online Christmas Concert, called Carols without words, featuring instrumental takes on Romanian popular carols alongside sacred miniatures by John Tavener, Arvo Pärt and Pēteris Vasks. 2021 sees the ensemble’s debut in front of a physical audience at the International Week of New Music Bucharest. www.transimfonia.com
