Now a museum, the Casa Mureșenilor was the home of the talented Mureşianu family. Jacob, a teacher and member of the Romanian Academy, became founding editor in 1850 of the newspaper Gazeta Transilvaniei, which was a leading force in campaigning for the civil rights of Romanians in Transylvania. His cousin, Andrei, was the editor of the newspaper’s literary supplement, and is best known as the author of words to Romania’s national anthem, Deșteaptă-te Române.
